Watch out Ethereum, there’s a new NFT blockchain in town and it has already attracted multiple new marketplaces and projects within months of its launch. We’re talking about the Cronos blockchain.

Cronos is an EVM-compatible blockchain network developed by Crypto.com, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world. The equivalent of Binance’s Binance Smart Chain in many ways, Cronos launched its mainnet in November 2021 with the intention of supporting the creator economy with various DeFi and GameFi applications. The ambition is for Cronos to serve as the foundation of the metaverse and Web3, which it does by ensuring dapps and smart contracts are more environmentally and user friendly.

Cronos is built on Ethemint, based on the Cosmos SDK, which means it’s interoperable with Ethereum, Cosmos and other EVM-compatible blockchains, in addition to the Cosmos ecosystem itself.

Since going live late last year, Cronos has seen massive growth with more than 350,000 unique wallet addresses created, over 120 dapp projects launched, and a total value locked of over $2.5 billion across 44 protocols, placing it 9th among all blockchains.

One of Cronos’s most promising use cases of all is nonfungible tokens. The platform has rapidly emerged as one of the most popular blockchains for artists looking to launch new NFT projects.

It’s attractive for NFT devotees because its blockchain is much faster than the number one blockchain – Ethereum. It means NFT tokens can be traded in just seconds. In addition, transaction fees are far cheaper than the notoriously high gas costs on Ethereum’s network.

Cronos’ NFT ecosystem is already growing fast – so much so, that now is the perfect time to showcase its top 15 most exciting NFT projects.

Agora

Agora is perhaps the largest single NFT community on the Cronos blockchain, with more than 1,350 NFTs for sale on its platform at the time of writing. Aiming to rival much larger marketplaces on Ethereum, such as OpenSea, Agora is built on the Arbitrum network, meaning anyone can buy or sell NFTs on its platform. The goal of Agora is to support artists and creators by providing them with a fully decentralized marketplace with low fees and fast transactions, where they can showcase their art to Crypto.com’s wider ecosystem of more than 10 million users.

When artists list their NFTs for sale on Agora, its data is stored in a smart contract. So when someone buys it, the smart contract automatically transfers the asking price in ETH to the artist’s wallet, before the NFT is unlocked and sent to the buyer. The system ensures creators can sell their NFTs with minimum hassle and low risk.

Ebisu’s Bay

As the first NFT marketplace on Cronos, Ebisu’s Bay is also one of the largest. It relies on the native Cronos token CRO, which is used to trade, buy and sell in peer-to-peer transactions. Since its launch in November, Ebisu’s Bay has already built up a strong community around its marketplace, serving as a launchpad for new NFT collections and providing tools for creators to mint new NFTs.

Ebisu’s Bay also prides itself on its hands-on support, working closely with NFT creators to ensure a successful launch on its platform. It’s equally proud of its strong security, allowing NFT enthusiasts to trade and transfer digital art, music, video and collectible NFTs securely. Not surprising then, Ebisu’s Bay has already given birth to multiple popular NFT collection, such as Cronos Chimps, Mad Meerkats and Crypotorockstar, among others.

Crosmonauts

The Crosmonauts are a soon-to-launch, extremely limited collection of NFTs on the Cronos blockchain. Just 1,000 NFTs will be minted for its launch on March 9 for an initial presale price of 250 CRO ($102), rising to 350 CRO after minting. Given their limited availability, the Crosmonauts are likely to be one of the most sought after collections of all on Cronos. What’s more, there are incentives to hold them too, with each holder of four or more crosmonauts entitled to receive a future Spaceship NFT, in addition to a CROSMO token drop.

Crocos NFT

Notable as the first ever NFT collection to launch on Cronos, there are a total of 2,000 Crypto Crocodile NFTs, which are unique digital collectibles that reside in their natural habitat on the Cronos blockchain.  Much more than just a funky art collectible, CrocoNFTs grant holders to multiple KEEPERS ONLY benefits, including an airdrop of Holiday Crocos Collection, plus the unique chances to stake their NFTs and receive CROCOS tokens in return, at a higher rate than non-NFT holders can. With over 170 traits ensuring that each CrocoNFT is totally unique, the collection has developed a strong following on Discord, Telegram and Twitter and the team is planning to introduce more updates and benefits in the near future.

CroPunks

Without doubt one of the most innovative NFT projects on Cronos so far, CroPunks is a limited collection of just 1,111 punk rocker style NFTs. It’s much more than just a collection though, as it’s also a marketplace and yield farming app that sits on the Cronos blockchain. Highly popular, one of the most impressive features is the ability of holders to view their CroPunk NFTs in an immersive augmented or virtual reality environment thanks to CroPunk’s unique application. The app is designed to bring the Cronoverse to life and provides real utility to the CroPunk NFTs, as only holders can access it.

CroPunk’s team is also creating a Tamagotchi style game where players will be able to use their CroPunk NFT as their in-game avatar, and find treasures and other accessories that can be used to customize their punk.

SupBirds

The SupBirds is a collection of 5,000 unique bird characters that live on the Ethereum chain. Each token is based on the ERC721 standard and comes with a proof of ownership. SupBirds’ mission is to build one of the biggest, most interactive NFT communities by connecting blockchain developers, artists, creators and investors all in one place. Uniquely, each NFT owner in SupBirds’ community will have an exclusive role, and other course voting rights for any proposal on its future development.

Reckless Robots

Only the bravest of collectors and investors are willing to snap up one of the highly original Reckless Robots NFTs. A unique collection of 2,100 hand drawn robot-style NFTs, the attraction is all about the impressive artwork as well as the staking opportunities.

Staking is a weekly elimination-style contest. Whoever stakes their NFT with the lowest bid each week will automatically lose their token. It will be purchased by the elimination wallet and burned, reducing the total number of NFTs in the collection. It also reduces the number of NFTs staked each week, meaning that each staker gets a larger proportion of the pool – hence, bigger rewards each week.

Panels Project

For anyone interested in sustainability and preventing climate change, there’s no better NFT to mint than the Panels Project. It claims to be the first carbon neutral NFT project on Cronos, with an NFT collection that will feature not only staking,  but also two peculiarities that make it quite distinct from others.

The first is that each NFT will be 3D, meaning it can be viewed within a virtual world. In addition, the NFTs will be usable in an as yet undeveloped play-to-earn game. While the exact game genre has not been revealed, it will be limited to NFT holders and involve the transfer of NFTs, meaning big rewards for those who want to compete.

As to sustainability, that’s where the “Panels” part of the project’s name comes in. Royalties from the P2E game and staking system will be used to fund the installation of solar panels in Senegal, as well as the donation of ecological lamps, so the project will essentially be returning whatever energy it consumes to the grid in the form of green power.

Mad Meerkats

One of the funkiest projects on Cronos to date, Mad Meerkats NFTs launched in November with the intention of introducing crypto enthusiasts to the beauty of NFTs. The project also serves as an integrated educational resource for sharing utility, art and knowledge.

Mad Meerkat NFT holders benefit in multiple ways, with the privilege of being able to stake their tokens for yield in partnership with an automated market maker project, CrocSwap, which provides a liquidity pool through which holders can stake liquidity on certain cryptocurrency pairs and earn a percentage of the rewards each day. It provides a big incentive for Mad Meerkat NFT owners to hold onto their tokens, rather than selling them for short-term gains.

Petite Planets

Petite Planets will be one of the largest collections of NFTs on Cronos with a total of 10,000 eventually planned. However, the NFTs will be minted in generations, with just 250 reserved for the first batch – and already sold out.

The NFTs take inspiration from our own solar system and the numerous exoplanets that have been discovered across the Milky Way galaxy. The project incorporates a unique burning mechanism called the “planet killer” which works by periodically sweeping the floor of planets listed for sale on secondary marketplaces. This is designed to boost the floor price of Petite Planets and increase the rarity of the remaining traits in the pool.

Petite Planet holders become a member of the Planetary Consortium, giving them voting rights on the future direction of the project and DAO actions such as Planet Killer directives, airdrops and such.

Another fun project on Cronos is Metaverse Pixels, described as an NFT and farming platform that enables users to buy blocks within a massive grid that makes up the metaverse. Once a user has purchased a block within the Metaverse Pixels grid, they’ll receive a unique MetaPixels NFT that represents their ownership of their block. With that NFT, they’re free to publish their content – an image, with detail and a link – within that block on the grid.

The Metaverse Pixels grid is still being filled out, and future functionality on the way includes an NFT marketplace, Pixel airdrops and finally a VR metaverse app that will allow community members to view their MetaPixels NFTs and build on the metaverse world.

Crobees

The Crobees project is all about community building on the Cronos blockchain. A limited edition of 2,222 bee NFTs will be minted, its creators say. Why bees? Because bees are perhaps the best animal in the world to represent a strong community, with the Crobees hive intended to be made up of workers, builders and drones, with every member having its own role.

Crobees’ ambition is to build an enormous hive ecosystem of people interested in NFTs, DeFi and anything else related to blockchain technology.

Cronos Ragdolls

Cat lovers will unite within the Cronos Ragdolls project, which is building a virtual NFT gallery that adjusts automatically to the NFTs each visitors’ wallet holds. The Cronos Ragdolls collection will eventually number 10,000 NFTs, with each one randomly assigned a role, either as a warrior or a mage, with a unique body, headwear, weapon, monocle, a pipe with smoke plus one unique display trait that will only be visible in the virtual gallery.

Traits can be common, rare, epic, and legendary, or in especially rare occasions, exotic. As with most NFT communities, there will be staking opportunities and voting rights, enabling cat lovers to earn with their artwork and have their say on community direction.

Cronos Secret Society

Help your species in its quest for total domination of the CSS Metaverse on Cronos with the Cronos Secret Society.

The plan is to mint a large NFT collection of four different character species, with the goal of each society being to rule a metaverse that’s made up of four unique territories. The four species will be of equal size, with 3,333 SouthSide Ants, 3,333 EastSide Cats, 3,333 NorthSide Ducks and 3,333 WestSide Bunnies, with each one released for public mint only when the Cronos Network reaches a certain level of unique wallet addresses. So for now, only the SouthSide Ants are available. The idea is to expand the community carefully, as the wider Cronos blockchain community grows. Cronos Secret Society intends to become one of the most influential communities on Cronos, serving as an example of wonderful art and endless possibilities.

Cronos Chimp Club

Taking its inspiration from the Bored Ape Yacht Club, the Cronos Chimp Club consists of 10,000 unique cartoon chimp NFTs that come with various traits that its creators say are intended to celebrate the various aspects of the Cronos blockchain ecosystem. By owning a Cronos Chimp, holders gain access to the exclusive Crons Chimp Club, which is a sustainable community of NFT enthusiasts within the wider Crypto.com community.

There are more than 140 possible unique traits from which each chimp is generated, meaning that each person who mints a Cronos Chimp has a great chance of getting a totally unique and rare chimp. There are currently 3,405 chimps listed on the Cronos Chimp marketplace, with a floor price of 740 CRO, making them some of the most expensive Cronos NFTs around.
