The hype around the land gameplay in Axie Infinity has only increased over the years since their initial land sale back in January of 2019. But their latest development journal brings us an update as well as a new teaser trailer! Dubbed Project K, the Axie team has lofty goals for their immersive world of Axies.
Founded in 2018, and now boasting over 2.9 million players, Axie Infinity has loomed large over the blockchain gaming community for some time. And after already establishing itself as dominant in the creature battler genre, Axie seeks to expand their offerings with an entire world to own and explore! This land development project, known as Project K, is a much anticipated addition to the game. The most basic plots are valued at $12 thousand dollars and one Genesis plot sold for over $2 million dollars!
Though their original roadmap included an alpha for the land gameplay in Q4 of 2021, the team decided to delay that release until 2022. Exact date still to be decided. Much of the reason for the delay is the switch to a 3D world. But with a much larger development team in place, we should see steady progress on the land gameplay.
The Axie team plans to release the land gameplay over three phases. Phase 1 focuses on building and resource production, phase 2 on skill trees, jobs, and social activities, and phase 3 on group gameplay such as conquest and large scale battles. The team also plans to include major events that affect all of Lunacia, and plenty of Axie lore to discover and enjoy. That sounds like quite a lot of content! With quests, seasonal events, social interactions, massive battles between armies of Axies… Project K promises something for everyone.
Below is a very short teaser video. Enjoy!
What is Axie Infinity?
Axie Infinity is a creature battler and breeding game. Originally on the Ethereum network, Axie Infinity moved to the Ronin sidechain in 2021, and launched a staking system for their AXS governance token. In the game players use 3 Axie NFTs to battle opponents in PvE and PvP, earning Smooth Love Potions (SLP). Players use SLP to breed new Axies. In addition, parent Axies can only produce offspring a limited number of times.
Earning SLP tokens has become a source of income for many people in countries such as the Philippines. Third party organizations like Yield Guild Games are building tools and communities to create true play to earn potential. Loaning out Axies in the form of ‘scholarships’, has become an accepted way to generate value for the Axie owners while providing play to earn opportunities for those who may not be able to afford an Axie team on their own.
The community has grown to over 2.9 million players. And with land gameplay on the horizon, expect it to continue growing for quite some time!
