Fan Controlled Football (FCF), a video game-like professional American football league managed by fans, has announced that it has raised $40 million in a Series A funding round led by Animoca Brands and Delphi Digital. The investment will be used to add two new teams to the league in time for the kick-off of its 2022 season, each of which is themed on the Bored Ape Yacht Club and Gutter Cat Gang NFT collections.

The BAYC and GCG teams join two other teams themed on the Knights of Degen and Team 80KI NFT collections, which were both added to the league in October. For each of the four new teams, 8,888 ‘Ballerz’ avatar NFTs will be minted, with a unique combination of over 150 traits, as well as the ability to be kitted-out in limited-edition accessories. Fans who possess NFTs from the BAYC or GCG collections will receive a 50% discount when purchasing Ballerz NFTs.

The FCF league, which was originally launched in February 2021 with only four teams, is a concept based on developing a product that combines competitive live sports, fantasy football, and live streamed video games into a single fan engagement experience. It entails fans making real-time decisions involving team management, plays, and drafting throughout actual American football games being played in a multi-purpose studio arena in Atlanta.

The league’s inaugural 2021 season racked up nearly 10 million streams on Twitch, making it not only one of the fastest growing live sports channels on the streaming platform, but also one of the top selling sports apps in the Apple Store.
