The time has come for owners of Chicken Derby Chicken NFTs to put their unwanted Chickens into the Fusion machine! Combine two Chickens to create a new one, perhaps even one with a rare Mutation that gives it an advantage in certain races!

Not to be confused with Chicken Breeding (which is not yet available), Chicken Fusion is the process of burning two existing Chicken NFTs to create a completely new Chicken. Generally, these new Chickens will have the traits of the ‘Material Chickens’, but sometimes, rare mutations will crop up instead!

The Fusion machine opens later today, April 11th. And I expect to see a noticeable decline in the Chicken population as a result!

Chicken Fusing

Chicken Fusing requires two Chicken NFTs and at least one Fusion Serum NFT. Players combine the three NFTs to make a new Chicken! The new Chicken will be a hybrid of the two burned Chickens, with most of their traits selected randomly from the two sacrificed. With a couple of exceptions.

For one, players can choose to lock Traits when fusing. Traits are sorted into three groups, and players can only lock one Trait per group. This incurs an additional cost in Fusion Serums based on the rarity of the locked Traits.

Secondly, Consistency is always random, though players can choose that as a Trait to lock. In addition, Perfection is selected randomly from the range between the Perfection ratings of the two Fused Chickens. Example: Fusing a 90% and a 93%, could yield a 90%, 91%, 92% or 93% chicken, with each having the same 1/4 chance of appearing.

Distance Preferences are based on the Preferences of the Combined Chickens, with three new Preferences available in this generation — Intermediate, Stretch, and Extremes. And speaking of generations, Fused Chickens have a Generation rank of one higher than the highest of the ‘Material Chickens’. This means that all Fused Chickens will be second generation at lowest.

And while this is all pretty cool stuff, the best part are the Mutations! Though some players may want to Fuse Chickens in order to create a specific type of racer, most will be aiming to acquire one or more of the new Mutations available. There are eighteen Mutations in all. These range from translucent skin to button eyes to robot beaks and more! The chance of a Mutation is about 1 in 10. And it is possible for more than one Mutation to occur on the same Chicken! This Mutations not only change the Chicken’s appearance, but can also affect the race results!

Fusion Serum Sale

The team held an initial airdrop of Fusion Serums to active players last week. They will also be holding a public sale for Fusion Serumd on April 12th, 7pm CST. This mint includes 47,050 Serum NFTs up for grabs, at a cost of 0.0033 WETH each (just over $6 USD at current values). No limit on the number of mints. The sale will be on the Polygon network and will only be open for 24 hours. Any NFTs left over will be available for future minting at a higher price point.

Interestingly, the Fusion feature will actually go live today, April 11th, a day before the Serum sale. This means that any player who already holds Serums will have a chance to get a jumpstart on trying to create the first mutated chickens!

If you’re looking to pick up Serums before the sale, they’re currently going for about $6 USD. Also, you have to look on Rarible, because these NFTs don’t display on Open Sea for some reason.

What is Chicken Derby?

Chicken Derby is a chicken racing simulation built on the Polygon network. Each Chicken is a unique NFT that can be entered into races for paid prizes.

Chickens come in four Heritages — Serama, Sultan, Lakenvelder, and Dorkling, in order of rarity. In addition, there are a number of random cosmetic traits for each Chicken. Ranging from standard white feathers to tiger patterns to robot chickens! Every Chicken also has a special Talent that can trigger during races. This can be something as simple as a short flight, or as extreme as creating a black hole!

Chickens have Perfection ratings, which affect their race performances. All of the original Spicy breed Chickens have a Perfection Rating of at least 90%. But it’s not always the 100% Perfection Chicken who wins the race. Each Chicken also has hidden preferences for track distance and type as well as a Consistency rating. Players must discover these hidden preferences on their own.

With seven different terrain types, six different track lengths, and twelve Chickens per race, each with their own preferences, abilities, and racing styles, Chicken Derby features enough variation to ensure that the race outcomes won’t be predetermined. There are also a number of ‘Easter Egg’ type bonuses that the team adds to the official documentation once the community figures it out. For example, Chickens with Alien Eyes get a boost to their Teleport ability (if they have it).

Chicken Derby also plans to build additional features such as breeding, a social hub, and land ownership.
