Genopets introduces a new feature for Habitat owners — the ability to pause the degradation of their Habitat. Normally, Habitats degrade daily, but with this new feature, players can pay a fee to Hibernate their Habitat, and halt the decay functionality for a limited amount of time.

Habitats are an important part of the larger Genopets ecosystem. Owning one isn’t required for participation in the basic game. But, Habitats do allow players to convert excess Energy into KI tokens, and also use those tokens to create Refined Crystals. These Crystals will be used with the Pet Augmentation feature, hopefully coming soon, but they are also needed to Repair and maintain Habitats.

Habitats have a limited lifespan. One that counts down every day. A Habitat that decays down to zero can no longer produce Refined Crystals. Repairing a Habitat costs 1 Crystal, which must be the same type as the Habitat, per day.

So, since a level 1 Habitat can produce one Crystal each day, it is self sustaining as long as you walk enough steps to convert Energy to KI tokens, and then use those tokens to refine Crystals. However, higher level Habitats can make multiple Crystals, making them a more valuable item for those who hope to generate income from this game.

But for those who need to pause their Habitat decay, there is now an option for that. And though the Genopets whitepaper doesn’t mention anything about a restriction on the length of the Hibernation period, the interface limits players to a maximum of twelve days.

Hibernation also comes with a cost. The first cost is KI tokens. Ten tokens per day that you want to Hibernate for a level 1 Habitat. The price moves up to 16 KI per day for a level 2, and 23 KI per day for a level 3. On top of that, any non-Genesis Habitat must also pay an additional, flat fee of five (5) GENE tokens. And, they can only be Hibernated once in their entire lifetime. Non-Genesis Habitats include Guild Habitats, and those produced from Seeds made in Genesis Habitats.

The Hibernation feature is available on the Genopets inventory page.

Genopets is a free-to-play, move-to-earn game built on the Solana blockchain. When using the Genopets app, players collect steps while walking. They convert those steps into Energy, and then use that Energy to level up their Pet or convert into KI tokens. KI tokens are the main currency in Genopets and used to craft Crystals, upgrade their Genopet, and maintain habitats.

Genopets visually change as they level up. And higher level Pets offer a better step to Energy conversion rate. Genopets recently introduced new level-based Energy conversion system that greatly reduced the amount of Energy generated by players. Especially those with low level Genopets.

Genopets features a number of NFTs, as well as the new style ‘SFTs’ for basic resources. The main NFTs are Genesis Genopets and Habitats. SFT Resources include Raw Crystals, Refined Crystals, Terraform Seeds, and other upcoming game additions such as Pet Augments.

Genopets is currently running a special Treasure Hunt for those who like to solve puzzles. Check their Twitter for more info on the latest challenge.
