Hublot, a luxury watch brand, is working with well-known artist Takashi Murakami on a new project. They will unveil 13 unique Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow watches and corresponding NFTs. On Feb 2nd, they launched the first piece at the Glass House in New York City. The rest of the collection will make their debut at the Watches & Wonders 2023 exhibition in March.
Hublot houses the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow watch in a 45mm black ceramic case. It powers the device with the Unico Caliber, providing 72 hours of power reserve. The 13th watch in the series is the Rainbow watch which Hublot drew inspiration from Japanese video games from the 1970s. An item that also includes a dial with 12 gemstone petals in various shades of rubies, sapphires, amethysts, tsavorites, and topaz. Its innovative ball-bearing system makes it so that the petals spin when the flower moves. Hublot places the smiling center of the flower on the inside of the sapphire crystal to add depth.
With this new release, the watch brand launched a new venture as part of its “Hublot Loves Art!” concept. With this project, the brand aims to mix art, technology, and the digital world in a creative way. Hublot and Takashi Murakami, who is famous for his smiling flower artwork, are working together for the fourth time on the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow watch. The initial partnership between the two was announced in January 2021 with the release of the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black watch.
Exclusive Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow Watch: A Limited Edition Masterpiece with an NFT Twist
The newly released watch is the first of many products that will reflect Murakami’s work and positive spirit. However, this new timepiece and NFT bundle will be limited to just 12 sets, available for purchase online at Hublot.com for 50,000 Swiss francs each.
The catch is that these sets are only available for sale to the owners of the 324 NFTs issued in April 2022. Only people who owned the first two Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami watches could initial buy and NFTs prior to hitting the secondary market.
Customers interested in these watches can collect one of the NFTs available on the OpenSea platform starting from the first release night on February 2 until the official sales of the 12 new watches. By doing so, they will gain the right to purchase the corresponding new watch.
After purchasing their new watch and NFT set, customers will have a one-year window to trade the 12 NFTs on the OpenSea platform. In April 2024, if any collector has managed to gather all 12 of these unique NFTs, they will have the chance to purchase the 13th watch, the Rainbow version. However, if no collector acquires all 12, Hublot will auction off the Rainbow watch for charity.
