The digital and physical worlds are constantly meeting at intersections thanks to blockchain, digital assets, and the metaverse. How do we as consumers respond to this and what will it mean for our future? These are questions that artist group Kvetny&Velasco hope to confront with its new interactive art installation CryptoPong Participate (2022), which is part of a larger CryptoPong exhibition.

The installation is not just a social and consumer commentary piece but is also a tribute to the iconic Pong game, which was released 50 years ago. The game is widely considered as part of the beginning of the digital age and ties in with the theme of the installation.

Details About the Installation

The art installation will be up from September 16, 2022, to January 22, 2023, at Nikolaj Kunsthal’s Upper Gallery. During that time, 50 unique CryptoPong Participate NFTs will be minted on the Tezos blockchain. These NFTs will not be sold but will be given to participants who can find the matching physical art piece using a ping-pong ball that will be available at the exhibition.

After they find one of the 50 artworks, all of which were designed by Danish artist Ida Kvetny, they can choose to keep the physical or digital piece. If they choose to keep the latter, they will need to return the physical piece to the organizers to retrieve it. Whatever pieces, both physical and digital, that are not claimed will be donated to the Museum of Nordic Digital Art (MoNDA).

According to Radar Contemporary, the curators of the installation, the plan is that CryptoPong Participate will tour multiple cities and countries over time.
