Bitcoin halving is upon us! And in honor of this event, Splinterlands launched two new promotional cards, available only for a limited time. Each promo card will have the Halving ability, which is currently only available on two other cards in the entire Splinterlands collection!

Another Bitcoin halving and another halving promo card from Splinterlands. Actually, two cards this time, Baron Fyatt, and Henchling Enforcer. These cards are special, promotional cards, only available during this event and never found in packs.

This Baron’s Bounty sale opened on April 16th and will only remain available for 15 days. Purchases can be made with Credits or Dark Energy Crystals (Dark Energy Crystals are currently the cheaper option), to the tune of 31,250 per BCX for the Baron, and 3,250 per BCX for the Enforcer ($32.50 and $3.25 USD respectively). Interested buyers can reduce this cost by up to 50% using Vouchers. Each card purchase has a 4% chance of being a gold foil. Though players can guarantee at least one gold foil card by purchasing 25 cards at once.

Additionally, each promo card purchase provides points towards a lucky draw for rewards including discontinued card packs, land plots, and Runi NFTs — over $100k worth of prizes! Also, the top two hundred purchasers receive special titles, and the top twenty additional copies of the new promo cards.

Check out the official shop page for more info and to make purchases.

new Splinterlands promo cards

For those who are interested in the cards, but not the lucky draw, these promo cards are available on the player to player markets at significantly reduced prices.

Despite Splinterland’s recent revamp of their league and battle reward system, they still seem to be hemorrhaging players. But despite some grumbling from the playerbase, with the sale only a few days old, we already see over 2500 Barons purchased.

And while this event may not attract new players, it’s always cool to see acknowledgements of significant moments like this in the web3 space.

What is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a browser-based, trading card game running on the Hive blockchain featuring some play and earn features. Splinterlands includes two blockchain tokens. Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), the primary game currency, and Splintershards (SPS), a governance token that can also be converted into DEC.

Splinterlands is a cross between a deck-building game and an auto-battler. Players use their cards to build a combat lineup based on the rules of the match. Then, once both sides submit their teams, the cards run in auto-battle mode until only one team remains. Players earn Glint (an in-game only currency) for winning matches, and and at the end of every two week season. Glint can be used to purchase cards and other in-game items. The top 50 players in every season also receive a payout of DEC tokens.

Splinterlands includes land ownership gameplay, letting players farm their land for Grain, Research Points, and SPS tokens. In the future, land gameplay will expand to allow players to create special game items.
