There are many theories revolving around the name change of Facebook to Meta. Meta is more of a parent company to Facebook, Instagram, and other things owned by Mark Zukerberg, if we think about it. However, there have been correlations drawn that Meta’s name is to ensure that Facebook company becomes the central focus in the Metaverse.

While that could be true, it also aligns itself with various innovations. And one such innovation is virtual reality.

Cue Quest 2 VRs

According to Mark Zuckerberg himself, Quest 2 is designed to allow users to immediately plug themselves into a Virtual Reality world and enter it to hang out with friends. The Ocular Quest 2 VR headsets will primarily work with Horizon World.

This also means that Horizon World will expand from just a North American experience to a potential worldwide phenomenon. Indeed, it hasn’t been easy with the online harassment, but we are moving somewhere.

Correlatively, users can also create their own virtual setups and worlds, for people to join and hang out with. This will work just like real-life homes, houses, and rooms. You choose a place to hang out, and it can be anyone’s place or anyone’s choice virtually.

It’s interesting to witness Meta moving towards VR/AR experience rather than tangling with the blockchain, cryptocurrency, and NFT. For a company that has supported Solana as the blockchain, it is fascinating not to see it launch any NFT project or even a blockchain. We have seen that it is relatively easy for companies to develop the blockchain. For a well-versed platform like Facebook, it should be a piece of cake.

Meanwhile, there’s a single competitor to Meta in the AR/VR universe, Apple. With their RealityOS trademark filing, they are also working on creating VR/AR experience that has nothing to do with NFTs, blockchain, and the likes.

Meta also announced the launch of Metaverse Academy in partnership with the French company Simplon. It will train and educate a new generation of specialists for the Metaverse. However, there wasn’t any mention of the blockchain or NFT. The academy will focus on immersive technology, virtual universes, and other innovations.

This hints that even for the next five years, Meta’s objective is to improve the AR/VR experience and do nothing with the Blockchain or any other technology.

Crayta Is The 2D Counterpart.

Crayta from Facebook

By now, you might have also heard about Crayta. It is a Facebook Gaming platform, or shall we call it, Meta’s gaming platform. It allows people to develop and create their games and original titles. More importantly, it uses Unreal Engine 4 to do the job. Many have drawn a comparison to Roblox Meets Fortnite approach.

Meanwhile, the platform uses Facebook Cloud Computing and has nothing to do with NFT, or Blockchain. The statement from Mark Zuckerberg states that Crayta is an attempt to show that the Metaverse experience doesn’t have to be AR/VR-oriented or just 3D. It can be 2D. That Web 3.0 is all about enhancing the new user experience.

This has drawn a clear line between Metaverse and Web 3.0. While Metaverse is all about blockchain, cryptocurrency, NFTs and other similar technologies, Web 3.0 is about enhancing user experience.

Oculus Quest 2 Is Available With Parental Controls

The Oculus Quest 2 AR/VR headsets have been available for some time. First, the expansion of the Metaverse hangout will be in the UK, apart from North America. This shows that Meta is moving toward expansion.

Other than Horizon Worlds, users can create customized, personalized, and original virtual worlds. This aligns with Meta’s objective to create a digital world.

On the bright side, Meta has moved towards a positive side by providing better parental control tools in the new Oculus Quest 2 update. It will allow parents to keep track of the content their kids or teens would use in the headsets. They can set time limits, among other things.

Before the sudden rise in blockchain and the NFT world, we were all predicting VR/AR to be the next big breakthrough in technology. It seems like Meta doesn’t plan on moving away from the objective. The same applies to Apple. While Apple is still slacking in delivering anything related to VR/AR, Meta is establishing a strong dominance.

Now that virtual hangouts are possible, we just have to wait for sensory stimulation. This could turn into an exhilarating experience or something like the Matrix. Jokes apart, it is incredible news for people who have friends worldwide and want to meet them somehow. With other news of VR/AR advancements, we are indeed looking at the digital universe and a unique experience.
