Shrapnel announced some new details about an upcoming, free mint for SCU, or Sigma Containment Units. Only 10,000 of these NFTs will be available, and getting access requires landing a whitelist spot. But don’t worry, you still have time to make that happen!

The much anticipated FPS game, Shrapnel, recently won awards in both the Gam3r’s Choice and the Gam3 Awards contests. Now they bring us news of an upcoming, free mint. This mint is for NFTs known as Sigma Containment Units, or SCUs.

Sigma Containment Units are in-game items used to store SIGMA, which players collect during gameplay. In addition, holding an SCU NFT will provide additional benefits such as:

  • Membership to a holders-only community
  • Early access to the Creator Tools
  • Exclusive content for the Creator Tools
  • Limited Edition content from Partner Collabs
  • Rare in-game SCU skins

The Shrapnel team says that they have partnered with a few artists to create the exclusive skin rewards. These skins will be available on Avalanche.

There are several ways to get on the whitelist for this mint. The simplest route is to hold an Operator NFT and verify your wallet through Discord. Beyond that, keep an eye on Shrapnel’s social media channels for contests and giveaways and community collaborations. They also plan to open an application form at some point.

In an interesting twist, this mint will happen simultaneously on three blockchains, with the NFTs split evenly between each. This mint includes Ethereum, Polygon, and Avalanche. There will be 3,333 SCU units available on each chain, with one minter on Avalanche receiving a unique 1/1 SCU airdropped to them!

We don’t yet know the date of this mint, so there is still some time to work on acquiring one of those whitelist spots!

What is Shrapnel?

Shrapnel is a mission-based, first person shooter where players join the warzone as operators for one of several teams entrusted with collecting and extracting valuable resources. But other operators are competing for the same resources, creating a high-stakes atmosphere that encourages risk-taking and rewards player skill.

Players equip their operators with the appropriate gear that suits their playstyle. Equipment (in the form of NFTs) is dropped when a player dies and can be looted by other players. In addition, players can gather the mysterious Compound Sigma. They must then fight their way to one of extraction spots and survive long enough to escape and claim their loot!

Shrapnel is built around player created content. This takes the form of tournaments, as well as player crafted NFTs. Players can even design their own unique vanity items to sell to other players! They will have land ownership and want to expand creation opportunities to player created maps and map items as well! They plan to have their own token, SHRAP. Players will be able to stake SHRAP to maps they like, sharing in the rewards from games on that map. Meanwhile, unpopular maps will find themselves pushed down to lower reward tiers.

Shrapnel also plans to build a community hub, DAO governance, and a reputation system!

Shrapnel held their initial Operator sale in June of 2022. Operators can be acquired on the secondary markets.
