As planned, Sky Mavis, the studio behind the ever-popular P2E Web3 game Axie Infinity, has announced that it will be closing the ‘Classic’ version of the game (a.k.a. Axie Infinity V2) once Season 21 ends on June 24th.

In wake of the closing, Sky Mavis will continue developing Axie Infinity Origin in order to maximise its full potential. Part of this will be the implementation of ‘full leaderboard’ capacities and rewards, wherein Guilds coming over from ‘Classic’ will still be able to play in teams of three across the game.

The closing of ‘Classic’ comes at a time when the game’s user activity has seen a relative slump, as its daily player figures have sat at around 10,000 across its timespan, which is a mere fraction of the game’s peak daily activity figure which sits in the millions. That being said, the number of active Ronin wallets has recently soared to three million, quite possibly because the entirety of Season 21 took place on the Ronin network.

In other news regarding the Axie Infinity ecosystem, Sky Mavis are looking to reopen the RON-ETH bridge, which has been closed ever since its mass breach back in March. June 23rd is the penciled in date for the reopening, where once in full effect, users will be sent funds from Sky Mavis and other fundraising projects. The reopening is also expected to recapitalise the Katana exchange and drive more assets from the Ethereum network.
