Off the back of his performance in the iconic Super Bowl 2022 half-time show, rap icon Snoop Dogg is continuing in his rampaging mission to merge the music industry with blockchain technology. It seems that releasing an album on the blockchain is not enough for the LA rapper, as now, he proposes to turn his newly acquired music label into an NFT label.

Whilst speaking in a chatroom on the social audio app Clubhouse on February 14th, less than 24 hours after performing to over 103 million from within the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Snoop spoke on the ambition he has for entering his music label, Death Row Records, into the metaverse: We will be putting our artists through the metaverse and through a whole other chain of music. Just like how we broke the industry when we was the first independent to be major, I want to be the first major in the metaverse so Death Row will be an NFT label”.

The news broke less than a week after Snoop announced his purchase of Death Row Records from MNRK Music Group for an undisclosed fee. As many rap enthusiasts will already know, Snoop is no stranger to the label, as it had the honour of producing two of his most legendary albums, ‘Doggystyle’ (1993) and ‘Tha Doggfather’ (1996).

The news also falls in the aftermath of Snoop’s most ambitious intertwining of music and blockchain technology to date, which involved the launching of his latest album ‘BODR’ (which is an abbreviation for ‘Back on Death Records’) on Gala Games.
