Since 2020, we have witnessed remarkable growth in the NFT game projects. The Metaverse exploded with new games rolling out after NFTs grew in popularity in 2021. However, most of these projects are from new companies or developing teams. The big names like EA Games, RockStar, and such are far from doing anything with the blockchain, NFT, and such.

This is almost the same as the expanse of mobile gaming. We received more indie games from lesser-known companies than the official game developers of the industry. However, there’s a new project that seems to be closing down the gap.

Stormrite could become a bridge that big gaming companies need to enter the NFT domain.

What Is Stormrite?

Stormrite is a new game, under development, by Kelechi Apakama. It is a new company too, and we haven’t seen any other titles from it. However, a notable feat is that Stormrite is going to be available on Steam and Xbox. This is something other NFT or Metaverse games have failed to achieve. They are focusing on either being a standalone app or a web client-based platform. This doesn’t work great for their credibility.

Stormrite follows an RPG-like approach where players will have the freedom to decide how their character will progress. Starting off as a squire, you can decide whether you want to become a warrior, mage, assassin, or something else.

It is an open-world game that will focus on quests and learning about collecting powerful scrolls known as Stormrite.

The NFT Aspects In The Game Stormrite – Enjin Power

Stormrite has kept the gamers and community in the loop by posting regular updates. Whether it was about Magic 2.0 or the new combat system. Stormrite has also recently announced a partnership with Enjin to power the NFT aspect of the game.

The NFT aspects are pretty simple. There will be cosmetic items in the game. These will be character and weapon skins, among other things. And these cosmetics will be the NFT items in the game.

Some points to note about this approach are:

  • There aren’t any tokens in the game. Players won’t have cryptocurrency or any in-game token.
  • The only blockchain will be Enjin for the NFT keeping, transfer and such.
  • The game itself won’t run on the blockchain.

How Does Stormrite Change The Facet Of Big Companies Entering NFT?

It’s simple. Most developers and companies thought that they needed to use blockchain and create a game on it for it to be an NFT or Metaverse game. However, Stormrite broke that misconception by only using Enjin for the NFT cosmetics. Hence, there is no need for developers to add cryptocurrencies and more.

It shows companies that they could potentially use a similar approach or leverage blockchain power and provide NFTs. These NFTs can be the achievement NFTs or the skins, and other cosmetic players have grown to love.

Here are some examples of games where players have grown fond of skins:

  • Players were crazy about Glacier Skin M416 in PUGB Mobile.
  • Apex Legends is known for fantastic legends skins.
  • COD has plenty of skins for weapons that stand the test of time.

These are all battle royale examples, but it doesn’t miss the point that skins are indeed popular. Stormrite has decided to introduce NFTs for these concepts. It will undoubtedly help.

Players have always enjoyed the new visuals and designs. You could see it in Animal Crossing and other popular games, where we have event-based items and skins.

Other Companies Could Offer Similar Approach

The idea of ultimately owning the skins, making them one-of-a-kind and on the blockchain, can be pretty profitable. People are already willing to spend so much on skins. Now, if they are exclusive and one-of-a-kind, the craze will get off the charts.

So, big gaming companies stand to reap many benefits. They can:

  • Generate a new source of income from games through NFT Skins.
  • Appeal to the gamers that want NFTs in the games.
  • Introduce a soft play-to-earn mechanism where players can trade NFTs after owning them.

A New Era Of AAA-Gaming

If Stormrite becomes successful, we are looking at a new frontier. It will be the first game to blend the AAA-gaming industry (or the mainstream gaming industry) into the NFT world. It could also become the first game to bring NFTs to the consoles, even if it is just Xbox for the starters.

All this could lead to a chain reaction. Something similar to the Nike NFTs, YouTube NFTs, and others. But for the gaming industry. There are many other blockchains like WAX and EOS that offer a similar approach to Enjin. You can incorporate some transfers. Companies could even use Ethereum for security (Storage) while using WAX and EOS for transfer.

Of course, there are many challenges with adding just NFTs and balancing them for the economy and other factors. But, Stormrite and its team might be onto something big here.
