Another web3 MMO throws their hat into the ring as Worldshards announces an early access playtest coming up at the end of February. You can pre-register for the game, but for this early access test, you will need a key, or a Founder’s Island to gain entry!

From their trailer, it seems that Worldshards takes a lot of inspiration from the classic MMOs such as Everquest and World of Warcraft. The game is only available for PC at the moment. You can add it to your wishlist on Epic Games, or on Steam.

Early access begins on February 26th. This playtest doesn’t feature any rewards for participation. But, by playing and providing quality feedback, you may be able to help shape the direction of the game as features are added and tweaked.

To get into this early access playtest, you will need an access key. You can do that through the upcoming Worldshards early access and land sale.

This sale includes a decorative item giveaway (just join their Discord chat, link to the webpage, and enter!), an early access bundle (with an extra access key to sell or give to a friend), and three different rarities of Islands. The Islands all provide entry to the early access playtest and function as home bases for players. This is where players can customize and set up crafting stations. Rarer Islands provide more room for customizing and increased workshop slots.

Island sales open on February 15th at 8pm UTC. Worldshards has partnered with Open Loot for this sale.

What is Worldshards?

Worldshards is a sandbox, fantasy, MMO game that will include both a web2 and a web3-enanbled version. Divided into a number of floating islands, the world of Murlandia, see players not only battling monsters and skilling up, but also sometimes solving puzzles or working out ways to peacefully solve situations to complete quests. Worldshards will include harvesting, crafting, farming, and player built structures.

Worldshards wants to create a sandbox-style game. One where players can craft and trade all of the items in the game, supporting a true player run economy.

In an interesting decision, Worldshards has decided to build two parallel versions of the game. One that supports web3 features, and one that remains firmly in the web2 world. Both versions will be the same, the only differences are that the web2 version will be available on Steam, and the web3 version will allow players to buy, sell, and trade items as NFTs.
