Yield Guild Games (YGG) network has grown exponentially with increasing scholarship demand.
YGG now has over 20,000 Axie Infinity scholars, setting a new record in the play-to-earn space. The YGG DAO has also accepted 1,000 scholars into a newly launched program for the football-themed NFT game CyBall, bringing YGG’s unique scholar number (that is, the number of individual players that are actively fulfilling scholarships in multiple games) to 20,700. YGG’s regional subDAOs — YGG SEA (YGG Southeast Asia) and OLA GG (YGG Latin America) — have also grown their scholarship base in various games.
YGG SEA has a total of 4,854 unique scholars, with some playing multiple games. Listed below is the breakdown of YGG SEA scholars that are active in each game:
- Axie Infinity: 4,854
- WonderHero: 861
- StarSharks: 462
- Thetan Arena: 30
OLA GG currently has over 1,800 scholars playing Axie Infinity.
Through this achievement, YGG further cements its commitment to provide its community with access to game assets that will allow them to earn rewards for their time and skill spent in-game.
“This is only the first of the many milestones that we want to achieve for YGG. We’ve really ramped up organisational investment in our “Game Ops” function, which is essentially the bridge between the games we partner with and our community of guild members.” Colin Goltra, Global Chief Operating Officer, YGG.
“We’ve been scaling the function with additional hires, new workflows and automations, and new community initiatives — such as our “Game Ambassador” and “Game Tester” programs. We’re already seeing results in terms of increasing our bandwidth. With this, we can accelerate our onboarding of scholars to fulfill the long list that is still waiting to get access to our games. Our regional subDAOs — YGG SEA, IndiGG and OLA GG — also play an integral role in making sure that we can provide opportunities to the hardest to reach communities across the world,” he added.
Despite the falling price of SLP, Axie Infinity’s in-game reward token, scholarship demand within the guild has not waned. The YGG DAO has seen a 203% growth in its total number of Axie Infinity scholars, which increased from 6,600 in November 2021 to reach the 20,000 mark in February 2022. However, while the guild has been adapting to keep up with the demand, there is still a long line of scholars hoping to be onboarded.
For the month of February 2022, YGG scholars have farmed over 26.4 million SLP, seeing a 57% increase from January 2022. Of this amount, more than 18.4 million SLP was received by scholars, given the structure of YGG’s scholarship model where 70% of all SLP shared goes to the scholar, 20% to the Scholarship Manager and 10% to the guild.
In addition to Axie Infinity scholarships, YGG has initiated a scholarship program in CyBall, a step toward its goal of introducing more scholarships in different games. The guild hopes to continue empowering each scholar with Web3 education and community support in their journey toward exploring gaming as an alternative way to earn supplemental income.
CyBall is a recently launched cyborg-themed soccer game where players can collect, trade, mentor and battle characters called CyBlocs. Players earn CBT tokens within the game, which provides multiple play-to-earn mechanics and an in-game NFT-lending system called CyLoans.
Slots in YGG’s scholarship program for CyBall are currently full, although more scholarships will be offered soon and will be announced via each guild’s Discord. Through this new scholarship program, Yield Guild Games aims to further secure its foothold in the play-to-earn arena as it continues to provide opportunities to its community.
