Individual of exceptional imagination and grand ambition, Akon, is no stranger to the wider crypto movement. Now, in his latest interview with Esquire, he revealed that all future music he creates will be released as NFTs.
Reporters caught up with the enigmatic star following his keynote appearance at the “Proof of Fusion” event in Dubai, where he flew the flag for NFTs and the blockchain. Discussing the new technology, Akon believes that NFTs will allow artists to claim a fair share of profits from their work, adding that the new technology provides full transparency in terms of distribution and playback data.
Going forward, Akon will release all new material using the medium, including an upcoming album hinted at during the interview. This new technology will then give him more control over the creative material than previously experienced.
“My next album is going to be an NFT album…which means I’ll be able to monetize it from the day it drops on every platform that exists,” he stated.
A huge believer in blockchain technology, the star is also the figurehead behind $AKOIN. A bespoke cryptocurrency designed to tokenize the talent and resources of the African people, while also acting as the principal token of Akon City, a futuristic metropolis located on the coast of Senegal.
