Billboard has partnered with fellow music industry influencers Universal Music Group (UMG) to launch an NFT collection titled ‘ChartStars’. The collection will reside on the Flow blockchain and will be curated in partnership with NFT platform Unblocked.

Each ChartStars NFT will be centred around the commemoration of an artist’s achievement in the Billboard Charts, and embedded with art and licensed video clips. They will also include gamified features, where leaderboards will be rendered to see who the top collectors are, and exclusive perks such as gaining access to live Billboard events can be won through various challenges.

The newly forged partnership is yet to pencil in a specific date for the collection’s launch, however, May 2022 is heavily-rumoured to be month of its release. To further the collection’s reach to UMG’s and Billboard’s crypto-inexperienced audiences, the collection is also expected to facilitate credit card purchases.

Michael Nash, UMG’s executive Vice President of digital strategy, stated that: “By harnessing its iconic charts for these compelling digital collectibles, Billboard is creating a ground-breaking new way for artists and fans to celebrate unique achievements and cultural moments”.

The joint-venture comes right off the back of each respective company making other headways in the NFT space, as Billboard recently teamed up with World of Women to launch a three-piece, A-list-infused magazine cover NFT collection, whilst even more recently, UMG shook hands with NFT platform Snowcrash.
