In a philanthropic endeavour to benefit multiple charities, the prestigious Buffalo Trace distillery is auctioning off a total of five 6 litre bottles of 19-year-old O.F.C Vintage 1982 Bourbon Whiskey. As the house of the auction, BlockBar, infers, bids placed on the bottles will in fact be bids on NFTs which represent each respective bottle, meaning the bottles can be vicariously traded through NFTs without having to leave the NFT platform’s storage facilities.
The auction for the five bottles, which have been described as having ‘extraordinary richness and butteriness with layers of apple, pecans, ripened pear, dark Belgian chocolate, caramel and a kiss of black cherries,’ will take place between March 14th and March 18th, with a starting bid of 9.58 ETH (around $2,500).
BlockBar, who have built a notorious name within the Wine and Spirit NFT niche, will continue to store each bottle until their rightful owner requests it to be delivered. Owners can decide to suspend the delivery on the bottle for as long as they wish, or can even trade the NFT to a fellow whiskey enthusiast, however once the bottle is delivered, the NFT will be burnt (whilst the savouring of 6 litres of gold-standard liquor can commence).
All proceeds from the auctions will go towards charities such as World Central Kitchen, The James Beard Foundation, Elton John Aids Foundation, The Art of Elysium, and 261 Fearless.
