A 2017 bottle of champagne that came with an illustrious Bored Ape NFT has sold for $2.5 million. Dubbed Magnum 2.5, the bottle sports a Swarovski crystal aesthetic that’s decorated with five NFTs that have been curated by Mig, the artist behind NFT projects such as Bored Ape Yacht Club and Sneaky Vampire Syndicates.
The bottle is a production of Champagne Avenue Foch, and is the brain child of Shammi Shinh, the entrepreneur who first debuted it back at the sophomore edition of NYC.NFT in June. It was purchased by Italian brothers Giovanni and Piero Buono at a private sale, where despite being listed on OpenSea for 2,500 ETH, the transaction was actually completed using dollars.
In making the purchase, the pair of brothers not only received a physical bottle of high-end bubbly, but they also gained ownership of the five NFTs featured on its surface. Within the digital asset assortment is a Sneaky Vampire Syndicate and Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT, with respective floor prices of 0.22 ETH and 95 ETH (a mere dent in the price of the bottle as a whole).
Although we already know that the contents of the champagne bottle aren’t the highlight of the asset, the words of Giovanni in wake of the purchase have since reaffirmed this thought, as he had this to say: “I don’t plan to drink it, I think it will be a good investment. There is a lot of turmoil in the investment world, things are changing geopolitically very quickly. Wealthy people will look for places to store their wealth for a while — and that could be a champagne with an NFT attached to it”.
