Greetings again art lovers and welcome back to another round of CryptoArt Sundays. This week I introduce you to the wonderful NFT artist Mueo.

Mueo aka Stuart Ward is classically trained in the Fine Arts. A core theme of his artworks is the possibility of a transformation; a moment of awe emerging from aesthetic. He has released a number of mind-blowing collections, such as Neobaroque Animated Works, The Mysteries, and Animated 3D AR.

He has had an immensely successful journey as an artist in the CryptoArt scene, so lets find out more about his NFT experience so far!

How did you find out about the NFT space, and what attracted you to create your own NFTs?

My friend Tom Badley introduced me to the NFT space after discovering some of my work on Instagram. This was in late 2020. He was very patient and walked me through all the steps needed to set everything up. I applied for a SuperRare account in November, and was approved some time in January. I must have been on the right Twitter ‘share your art’ thread shortly thereafter, because collectors began to express interest in my work.

NFTs to me, remove the need to translate an artwork into a different media to make it available to collectors. In my case, the vision and intent of a creative endeavor doesn’t need to be modified to be able to be brought to market. Most of my major NFTs are digital animations. I don’t need to take a still and create a print, or modify it to be included in a sponsored event or experience. The art that’s available to my audience and collectors is presented in the media that it was intended to be created in. That has set me free to create in a more open and unrestricted way.

How often do you create?

I try to create every day. I keep a studio in a traditional art studio building. I go to my studio to work on things on most days. Some days are more productive and fruitful than others, and that’s part of the mystery of the creative process. Will the muses visit today, or should I occupy my day with more mundane or technical matters?

Are there any CryptoArtists you would love to collaborate with?

There are a lot of very interesting artists in the NFT space. Collaborating with them would be an honor. I’m a bit swamped with projects at the moment so I’m not taking on any new collaborations at the moment, unless the ethos of it really grips me. You could say I’m sometimes easily distracted.

What do you think the future of CryptoArt will look like?

In April 2021, there was a massive shift from NFT art into NFT collectibles, where everyone piled onto the wagon hoping to get exceedingly rich quickly. By the quantity of NFTs released, I would posit that the value of 99%+ of all NFTs is already at 0.

Sure, some projects make it to the moon, but the vast majority end up with 10k bag holders. Unfortunately, artwork NFTs have been lumped into this mess, and a lot of people are associating NFT art with their pfp siblings, giving the NFT art world a bad name.

The good news is that it seems like the momentum is shifting away from pfps again, potentially making more space for art. Additionally, the curators, gallerists, critics, and writers have become much more involved in the world of art sold as NFTs. This will help filter the noise as the wild west is tamed into an established industry.

What are you currently working on?

I’m working on a several different projects at the moment. With consideration to my background in experiential spaces, I’m exploring the boundaries of where the artwork begins and ends. I’ve created a few virtual spaces and animated sculptures, where the viewer can be immersed in the work in AR, VE or webVR. I’ve also been experimenting with different ways of bringing the digital into physical spaces without losing the core essence of the artwork.

Where can collectors find your work?

Where can collectors find my work? There are a couple of my artworks available on SuperRare at the moment. Almost all of my collectors have had a conversation (interview) with me before purchasing my work. I think this is a crucial step to understanding the artwork and the associated investment being made. Availability for purchases is limited, but I share all sorts of my artwork, experiments, and life on my social channels for everyone to enjoy. My artist statement, bio, and list of exhibitions is available here.
