Mythos Studios, established by Marvel Studios’ founder and executive chairman, David Maisel, has announced the release of the Ekos Genesis Art Collection. This marks the studio’s second collaboration with renowned artists Michael Turner and Peter Steigerwald.

The collection features unique 1/1 colored art pieces inspired by various influences such as classic Marvel comics and films, the Pop Art movement, Marvel’s 70’s black light posters, Broadway’s neon lights, and the creativity of web3, as stated in a press release.

Turner, an American comic book artist who contributed to Marvel and DC comics, passed away in 2008. Steigerwald, who worked closely with Turner, also acted as a colorist for DC and Marvel comics.

Owning a 50% stake in Aspen Comics and the associated intellectual property, Mythos Studios‘ Ekos Collection focuses on characters from series like Fathom and the titular Ekos, which was Turner’s final, unreleased project at the time of his death.

Celebrating Turner’s Legacy and Marvel’s Influences

Each NFT in the collection is based on Turner’s original line art, featuring added colors inspired by elements such as the Pop Art movement, black light posters, and neon lights.

The Ekos Genesis Art Collection will initiate a Dutch auction of 995 unique NFTs on May 2 at 10 a.m. PT, a date significant to Maisel as it marks the 15th anniversary of “Iron Man,” the film that launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The auction will span 88 minutes, with bidding commencing at 10 ether (ETH) and decreasing by 0.5 ETH every four minutes until reaching 0.5 ETH. The final eight minutes will see the price drop to 0.2 ETH, assuming the collection remains unsold.

Before the Dutch auction, potential buyers can deposit for the NFTs starting April 24 at 10 a.m. PT. Those who deposit 10 ETH by May 1 can secure an Ekos Genesis Art piece.

The first 100 early deposits will receive an Early Collector Bonus—an additional NFT from the separate “Ekos Genesis Art Portraits” collection. Collectors eligible for bonus NFTs can select their artwork based on deposit order (earliest depositors choose first). Finally, at the auction’s conclusion, the top six collectors will each be awarded a unique NFT featuring art from the same 2021 Fathom cover art collection.

Final Thoughts

The Ekos Genesis Art Collection by Mythos Studios is a testament to the legacy of Michael Turner and the lasting influence of Marvel on the creative world. This unique collaboration with Peter Steigerwald celebrates the talents of these accomplished artists while offering collectors an opportunity to own exclusive NFTs that blend the worlds of comic book art and cutting-edge digital technology. As the Dutch auction approaches, excitement builds for this remarkable tribute to Turner’s work and the iconic Marvel brand.
