Welcome back to the Metaverse Explorer series with me, Jake.
If you enjoy experiential retail, free wearables and complex quests, I got the perfect spot for you. Samsung, the Fortune 500 consumer electronics company, recently opened up a store front at 103,76 in Decentraland. The newly constructed scene is modeled after its physical 837X store located in New York.
Samsung is not the first large brand to develop a virtual replica of an existing building in Decentraland. Sotheby’s opened up an auction house mirroring its New Bond Street gallery in London in mid-2021. The storefront will only be available for a limited time and is located in the upper right district called the Aetherian Project. The scene was created by the Last Slice Collective.
The outside of the structure has a futuristic-utopian vibe with vibrant colors, sleek cars and large towers. The entrance is a simple double-door, which appears blocked by a veil of purple lighting. Above the entrance is a large “837X” sign in highlighter blue and purple. The windows are shaded with intricate designs in highlighter blue and purple displaying the Samsung logo. The back of the structure is a simple brick layout with a harmonious window display.
The inside of the structure is magnificently designed with intricate details. The entrance corridor features panel-like flooring and rotating wallpaper. The main floor is a large showroom displaying Samsung’s wearables and quest information. The three optional rooms include the customizable stage, sustainability forest and the connectivity theater. Players are able to complete the quests to earn 837X NFT badges.
My favorite part about this build are the details the Last Slice collective nonchalantly carved into the scene. My first taste of this was the futuristic car out front. The car complimented the overall vibe of the outside and tied it together nicely.
The individual quest rooms are lavish with bright colors and interesting experiences. The enchanted forest is a magical scene bright with large green trees, flowing blue water falls and exciting obstacle courses. Samsung has truly brought a unique experience to the metaverse and am looking forward to the large brand continuing to pioneer in the experiential retail space.
