‘Deadpool’ writer and artist, Rob Liefeld, is launching a new comic book NFT project entitled ‘The Defiants.’ The book debuts an all-new cast of humanity-saving superheroes, and will be the first of four shared-universe titles to be introduced as NFTs.

The project drops on January 20th on MakersPlace NFT marketplace, an event in which the Image Comics co-founder cannot suppress his excitement for: “The Defiants is an offbeat concept featuring the wildest characters I’ve ever created, I’m thrilled to share their world in the realm of NFTs.”

Liefeld began working on the project four years ago, before recognizing that the explosion of NFTs in the comic book realm had provided the project with an astute angle of leverage and distribution: “Since I was first tasked with creating all-new worlds and legacies for Marvel Comics, I have desired to use publishing platforms to push the distribution of fresh concepts and characters. Now, three decades later, in conjunction with MakersPlace, I’m utilizing the platform of NFTs to launch a new world filled with exciting new faces and legacies.”

NFTs began carving their way into the world of comic books back in early 2021, with a notable landmark occurring in March when DC artist Jose Delbo sold $1.85 million worth of NFT art featuring the iconic Wonder Woman. Since then, other prominent industry names have entered the NFT space, such as DC and Marvel creators Frank Miller and Matt Kindt.
