Months ago, NFT lovers rejoiced when the UK Official music charts began including NFT sales as part of chart data. For the albums chart, this signalled a major turning point for NFTs’ acceptance.

Now, in another history-making event, Muse’s ‘Will of The People’ album is on track to become the first UK album with NFT releases to snag the no 1 position.

The Will of the People

The album, which was released on August 26, 2022, had only 1,000 NFT units released globally but is currently on pace to hit number one in the next chart release. The NFTs, which were minted on the Serenade NFT platform, came with a downloadable version of the album and included signatures from all members of the band.

While this is the first time that the band as a whole is offering an NFT release, its frontman Matt Bellamy released three songs as NFTs last year.

Now, as NFTs are being included on the charts, there is talk about them becoming the next big music release format.

Just as vinyl, 8-track, cassette tapes, CDs and even MiniDisc, DCC and DAT have been welcomed into the charts, we will also welcome Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs),” said Martin Talbot, chief executive of the Official Charts Company

Hopefully, we will see even more NFT-backed chart toppers in the years to come.
