Celebrated digital artist Pak is collaborating with WikiLeaks to launch an NFT collection in the name of the non-profit’s imprisoned founder, Julian Assange. As an effort to pile pressure on the freeing of Assange, the NFT collection will also support the Wau Holland Foundation, a German-based charity which has raised millions in donations for WikiLeaks.

The collection, ironically titled ‘Censored,’ is set for launch on February 7th. It will include two parts – a dynamic 1/1 NFT which includes an image that changes over time based on smart contract data, and a dynamic open edition which anyone can partake in.

The collection is part of a reinvigorated effort to liberate Assange, after he was indicted on conspiracy charges in 2019, whilst still being at risk of extradition to the U.S. Before his indictment, Assange was famous for publishing large datasets of censored or otherwise restricted official materials involving war, corruption, and intelligence. He referred to his practices as ’scientific journalism,’ as little editorial commentary was provided, or perhaps needed, when publishing such material.

Though not directly related to the collection, FreeAssangeDAO, an official body set up in the name of Assange’s release, plan on making a bid on the dynamic NFT. The DAO takes inspiration from the FreeRossDAO, which entails a similar premise, but with Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, as its subject.

The collection from Pak comes off the back of the anonymous creator’s landmark The Merge NFT project, which pocketed over $90 million from its 250,000 pieces, making it the highest-grossing collection on the Nifty Gateway platform.
