It is unfortunate that the NFT world is often plagued with scam artists and hackers, some of which remain incredibly difficult to track down. This makes it even more remarkable that the Binance security team has caught a criminal behind an NFT hack from last year.

This news was shared by Binance CEO Chanpeng Zhao in a January 17, 2023 Twitter thread.

To Catch a Hacker

As Zhao explained, this whole saga began last year when Yılmaz Aslantürk, a prominent Turkish artist, had their NFTs stolen.

Zhao also said that the Binance team got in touch with the criminal and conversed with them for several months. Eventually, they admitted to stealing the assets and agreed to return the money. Responding to another Twitter user, Zhao was quick to clarify that Binance is not in a partnership with OpenSea but simply tries to help if it identifies a suspect in any theft.

This news came as a relief to Aslantürk, who publicly thanked the Binance team for the recovery of the assets. It will also come as a relief to NFT users who can have a bit more faith in the industry.
