Digital and physical trading card company Topps are hosting an auction for the Topps 1952 Mickey Mantle Card NFT edition. The digital baseball card will be the first collectible in the Topps Timeless NFT series, marking it the first occasion for retro-sports fans to get their virtual hands on the next evolution of Topps trading cards.

The 1952 Mickey Mantle NFT auction has been live on OpenSea since March 1st, and will continue to be so until 1PM EST on March 4th. Any bids in the last 10 minutes will extend the auction by another 10 minutes.

On top of receiving the 1-of-1 card, which is a digital recreation of the legacy-defining classic card, the winner of the auction will also have the opportunity to participate in a 30 minute video interview with Mickey Mantle’s sons, Danny and David Mantle.

The trifecta of bodies which put the digital edition together, Topps, Mantle Estate, and Major League Baseball, have also added video historical imagery and memorabilia to the card, to increase its utility even further.

In anticipation of the sale of the card, Danny and David have jointly spoken on the significance of the card within their father’s iconic sporting legacy: “This card has been part of my father’s legacy for 70 years and it is amazing to see its continued impact with collectors and baseball fans around the world. We are very pleased to share this piece of history with Topps in a new and exciting way through NFTs”.
